Samuel James
Samuel James is a bassoonist, educator, and performer currently residing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Sam completed his Bachelor's degree in Bassoon Performance at Baylor University, and his Master’s degree and Artist Diploma in Bassoon Performance at Southern Methodist University.
At Baylor University, Sam studied with Dr. Ann Shoemaker and performed with the Baylor Wind Ensemble, the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, and the Baylor Camerata. Sam studied with Professor Ted Soluri at SMU and performed with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Sam has performed with several other groups in Texas, including the Dallas, Waco, East Texas, and San Angelo Symphonies. He has been a member at Brevard Music Festival, PRISMA, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, and was the contrabassoon fellow for the Eastern Music Festival in 2024.
Sam is also a private instructor in Allen ISD and GCISD. In his free time, Sam enjoys cooking, spending time with his friends, and hanging out with his cats, Claude and Olive.
