JAMES PILE

James Pile is the Assistant Director of Bands at Timber Creek High School in Fort Worth, TX. Mr. Pile is a recent graduate of Texas Tech (Wreck ‘Em!!), graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Music Education along with an Undergraduate Certificate in Jazz Studies.

During his time at Texas Tech, Mr. Pile studied with Dr. Kevin Whalen, Dr. Joel Pagán, Dr. Eric Allen, Dr. Julia Bell, Dr. Andrew Stetson, Dr. Ben Haughland, and Professor Stephen Jones. He was actively involved within the school of music at Texas Tech, performing with the TTU Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra, creating a brass quintet to perform with friends, and competing in the national trumpet competition in both the solo and ensemble divisions, leading the 1st place large ensemble in 2024. Mr. Pile also served as the Head Drum Major for the Goin’ Band from Raiderland in 2023, marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

In his spare time, Mr. Pile helped with local schools, such as Hutchinson Middle School, teaching private lessons and masterclasses! Most notably, Mr. Pile worked with the Lubbock Cooper High School as a marching technician for their 2022 & 2023 seasons, as well as the director and visual coordinator of the 2023 Lubbock Cooper Indoor Percussion ensemble, earning a silver medal in the TECA open class division.

Currently, Mr. Pile serves on the brass staff for both the Boston Crusaders and Music City Drum & Bugle Corps. Previously, he was a performing member of the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2022, and the Boston Crusaders in 2023-2024, serving as the horn sergeant in 2024.

In his free time, Mr. Pile can be found either in the gym, spending time with his family, or exploring local food scenes.
