Brendan Mathieson
Brendan Mathieson is an internationally active trumpeter specializing in classical, jazz, and commercial performance. As a classically trained player, he has performed with many wind bands, brass ensembles, and orchestras. He served as principal trumpet of the Prague Summer Nights Orchestra in 2025, and is a substitute musician with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. Beyond classical performance, he has performed with the New England Conservatory (NEC) Youth Jazz Orchestra and served as lead trumpet of the Boston University Big Band for three years.
Brendan’s experiences include teaching. He has served as a chamber coach at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where he coached brass quintets and trumpet ensembles to prepare for competitions while performing as a member of the CCM Graduate Brass Quintet. He has worked as a teaching assistant at the Interlochen Arts Camp Trumpet Intensive, where he conducted the trumpet ensemble and taught classes. He was employed by the Mendon-Upton Regional School District as a jazz band director and maintains a private studio with students of all ages. In addition to trumpet, Brendan plays bass, guitar, and piano, giving him a broader musical perspective that informs both his performance and teaching across multiple styles.
Brendan earned his bachelor's degree from Boston University, studied at the Royal College of Music in London, and holds a master's degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Brendan maintains an active career as both a performer and educator, drawing on a diverse background in orchestral, jazz, chamber, and commercial music.
